Delta recommendation vs references

In the process of filling out my Airlineapps. What's the difference in the references (2 pro, 1 personal) and the recommendations Delta talks about in their addendum? Just wondering if they are one in the same or if I need 3 ref and/or 3 recs or what? Do they need to be internal Delta ref? I think the recs can be either. Also, they recommend 3 references. I'm guessing more is better, but to what end? thanks for the help.

The recs you put in the regular section will auto-populate to the addendum if you select them for Delta or "all airlines" I think the only kicker is to make sure one of your 3 min is over a 10 years. They do not need to be internal, but obviously it can't hurt.

References are generally the people they contact to ensure you are who you say you are, not necessarily Delta people. If you click on the help on that page it explains who to put down. I think I had 3 personal and 2 professional but just make sure you have the minimum and one is 10+ years. Make sure to get all the info for every reference filled in.

The recommendations (LOR) are the actual letters written by people, also not necessarily Delta people. (You don't need letters from your references.) They can be doubled up but I would try to spread the field. Remember you need some LORs from people you've flown with to speak to your competence, but you can also have LORs from others that aren't even pilots, like an old school teacher or leader of a volunteer organization you work with. More is better but only to a certain point and no one will tell you where that is. I had 6, no internals. One was a former boss from a college job.

Hope this helps, let me know if I didn't explain something clearly.
